Around the globe, more and more homeowners are electing to install residential solar power systems. Their motivation is to reduce long-term energy costs while minimizing their carbon footprint.According to a report by SEIA, a record amount of residential solar capacity was installed in Q4 2020, and overall growth for 2021 is estimated at 18%, with growth expected to continue in the coming years. This rapid development has stemmed mostly from improvements in the efficiency and lower cost of the latest solar power systems.Home installation of a high-quality solar power system can reduce or eliminate dependence on the community power grid that supplies electricity to light, heat, cool, and operate your home.


So, what is needed to create an efficient solar power system for home use?


Solar PV systems consist of 4 main components, the first of which is the solar panels which are responsible for generating DC electricity.The next component is the charge controller which ensures the batteries are charged according to the manufacturer’s specifications.


Next is the battery bank, where the generated power is stored for use at a later stage.


And lastly is the inverter(including modified sine wave inverter and pure sine wave inverter), which converts the DC power to AC power for use in your home.Inverters are the mechanisms that convert the direct current (DC) produced by the solar panels into the alternating current (AC) that homes require.


Inverters are available in a wide range of wattages for different size systems.. It comes with two cables, red and black, with alligator clip ends for gripping to the battery posts. In choosing which size inverter to buy, you can calculated how much power was available to your system and what devices you wanted to run. In calculating power needs, it is important to add the power requirements when two or more devices are running simultaneously.


When the sun rises and solar irradiance reaches the solar panels, the photovoltaic effect causes them to generate DC electricity. This electricity flows through the charge controller at the specified voltage into the battery bank.


The battery bank is connected to the inverter and the power is converted to alternating current similar to what you would receive form the national electricity grid.This alternating current is what is distributed throughout your house to power your appliances. Safely, efficiently and for free.
